Board of Directors
The organisation is guided by a volunteer board of directors who are elected from the membership. This board oversees the strategic direction of the non-profit, ensuring its mission to advance climate action, renewable energy, and environmental justice in Alberta remains focused and effective. Day-to-day, the board meets regularly to review financial stewardship, approve major decisions, and provide governance oversight for all programmes. Board members also serve on committees that advise on policy positions, fundraising, and community engagement. They do not manage daily operations but rather set the high-level vision that the staff team carries out.
How to get involved: Individuals who share the organisation’s values and have expertise in governance, finance, law, or environmental issues are encouraged to express interest when board nominations open each year. The election process is transparent and open to voting members. No formal qualifications are required beyond a commitment to the cause and availability for monthly meetings and occasional committee work.
Core Staff Team
A small, dedicated core staff handles the day-to-day work of the organisation. This team includes policy analysts who research and write briefs on provincial energy and climate policy, campaigners who organise public actions and coalition meetings, communications staff who maintain the website, social media, and press outreach, and an administrator who manages finances and donor records. Together they ensure that campaign materials are accurate, that policy positions are evidence-based, and that the organisation runs smoothly.
The policy team spends its days reading government documents, drafting submissions, and meeting with stakeholders. Campaigners coordinate events, rallies, and legislative visits. Communications staff produce newsletters, blog posts, and media advisories. The administrator handles day-to-day bookkeeping, grant reporting, and volunteer coordination.

Research Placements & Volunteers
The organisation regularly hosts research placements for university and college students. These placements can be part of a co-op programme, a thesis project, or a practicum. Students work under the supervision of senior staff to conduct primary research on topics such as renewable energy feasibility, community air quality, or the social impacts of fossil fuel transitions. Their work directly informs policy recommendations and campaign messaging. Day-to-day activities include literature reviews, data analysis, interviews, and report writing.
Volunteers are the backbone of local grassroots efforts. They help with door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, tabling at farmers’ markets, and organising neighbourhood climate workshops. Volunteers also assist at fundraising events and outreach tables. Day-to-day, a volunteer might spend a few hours knocking on doors to talk about renewable energy projects, or helping set up a community meeting space. No prior experience is required—training and materials are always provided.
How to get involved: Students interested in research placements should contact the organisation directly before the start of each academic term with a brief proposal or area of interest. Volunteers can sign up through the website’s volunteer portal; a calendar of upcoming activities is updated weekly.
